Body Temperature

After cessation of brainstem and hypothalamic functions and after complete disconnection of the spinal cord from supraspinal brain structures, the patient becomes poikilothermic, and body temperature tends to be hypothermic, even with vigorous warming.[45] Because hypothermia suppresses CNS function and leads to misdiagnosis of brain death, body temperature must be within normal

range (i.e., hypothermia must be corrected) before the criteria for brain death are applied.
