on airway smooth muscle. Acetylcholine (ACh) stimulates M3
receptors
to cause contraction. M2
muscarinic receptors are located presynaptically
at the postganglionic parasympathetic nerve endings, and they function in a negative-feedback
mechanism to limit the release of acetylcholine.
