Vane Spirometer Flow Meters (Wright Spirometer)

Vanes or propellers placed in a confined flow turn at a rate proportional to the volume flow if there is no friction in the propeller bearings. Various vane spirometers ( Fig. 30-22 ) (e.g., Wright spirometer) work by this principle. These devices tend to be less accurate at both very high and low flow rates because of frictional forces.
