Other Compounds

Dezocine

Dezocine is slightly more potent and acts faster than morphine, with a similar duration.[493] Dezocine is a partial agonist at μ- and probably δ-receptors. Side effects are similar to those of morphine. It is more effective in reducing the MAC of potent inhaled anesthetics (<50% with cyclopropane and 58% with enflurane) than other agonist-antagonists. [494] Dezocine can be effective for moderate and severe pain,[495] but it can cause myocardial depression and hypotension.

Meptazinol

Meptazinol has been reported to cause minimal respiratory depression because of its selectivity for μ1 -(high-affinity) receptors.[496] However, meptazinol-induced respiratory depression has been also reported.[497]

There are conflicting reports concerning the efficacy of meptazinol as a postoperative analgesic.[496] Side effects (nausea and vomiting) limit its use to relieve severe pain. Meptazinol, 120 mg, is equianalgesic to 10 mg of morphine.
